My Thoughts on the First Half:
Initial thoughts on the first chapter:
The first chapter had a serious undertone but there was also some fun and humor in it as well. I liked the letter to Lou that Dacia wrote.
Thoughts about the characters:
Lou is my favorite for one sure. She is smart, loyal, a bit timid, but ultimately feisty. I really love Lou. She makes the whole book for me. Dacia well… She flirts with every guy she meets. (No, that’s not a judgment; it’s just a big part of who she is!) She is headstrong to the max. She’s kind of just there for me at this point, to be honest. Her chapters read slower than Lou’s for whatever reason.
Thoughts about the plot:
The plot is interesting enough. I definitely want to know what the big, bad Family Secret is. Unfortunately for me, the book moves far too slowly. I just finished page165 and I can’t think of one major event that has happened other than Lou’s father – sadly – leaving their fold.
Least favorite part so far, if any:
Lou’s father leaving was pretty sad. I wished he could have stayed and provided a voice of reason in the madness. My other least favorite part is the glacial pace. It’s a book for teens and that means the plot should be moving a lot faster than it is. I’ll be honest; I am a little put out over it at this point. It feels like a chore to finish it.
My favorite part so far:
The letters and diary entries are probably the most interesting part of the book so far. I also enjoy reading about Lou. She reminds me a bit of well, me. She’s very relatable.
My predictions for the second half:
I think the big Family Secret will FINALLY come out. I mean, it has to right? I guess this book is the first one in a series so there will be others following it. I pray “Silver in the Blood” doesn’t end with a major cliffhanger because I don’t want to be “required” to read the next few books to see how it all works out.
I love the period its set in (the late 1800’s). I love the mystery element of it. I just pray that the second half of the book picks up the pace a lot.
Questions I have:
What’s the big Family Secret? Reveal it already! LOL Also what was the big scandal Dacia caused?
Society girls from New York City circa 1890, Dacia and Lou never desired to know more about their lineage, instead preferring to gossip about the mysterious Romanian family that they barely knew. But upon turning seventeen, the girls must return to their homeland to meet their relatives, find proper husbands, and—most terrifyingly—learn the deep family secrets of The Claw, The Wing, and The Smoke. The Florescus, after all, are shape-shifters, and it is time for Dacia and Lou to fulfill the prophecy that demands their acceptance of this fate... or fight against this cruel inheritance with all their might.
With a gorgeous Romanian setting, stunning Parisian gowns, and dark brooding young men, readers will be swept up by this epic adventure of two girls in a battle for their lives.
